A Mexican feast @ Fonda

For a while now we had been hearing of a new Mexican restaurant that was from Melbourne and had opened at Bondi Beach, called Fonda. I had walked by a few times, the fascade was pleasant with a stylish fit out, a few tables out front and a few quality beers on tap, very tempting.

We finally got around to visiting for a quick bite to eat with a few friends before heading to the open air cinema to catch a movie. The service was prompt and friendly. We were offered a table outside. Fonda have done well with the fit out and it is well suited to the area. The place was busy, with many enjoying an evening beverage accompanied by some fine Mexican cusine.

To start, we ordered some corn chips with guacamole and pico de gallo and a couple of draught beers (Stone and Wood) pacific ale, perfect start on that hot afternoon. The chargrilled corn with chipotle mayo, queso and lime, a flavour sensation and a must order.

The tostadas are made with a large crisp tortilla and are a lighter option, nicely presented with vibrant coulours and flavours.

The Mexico City Pulled Pork tostada are also  a tasty number with a unique flavour combination of pineapple salsa, black bean, salted ricotta, shaved iceberg lettuce and guajillo chilli. This combination is also available as a quesadilla. The herbed portabello mushroom quesadilla was suprisingly our favourite of the quesadilla range.

We had an enjoyable afternoon visit to Fonda. A great place to enjoy a bite to eat and some cold beverages close to the beach. The prices are reasonable considering the location of Bondi Beach with food to set you back about roughly $30 based on entree and another dish. A return visit to sample more of the menu and a creative cocktail list on the cards.
