Breakfast and baked goods at Berry Woodfired Sourdough

When we travel, we always try to seek out a good local bakery and quite often we will find something we really like. Berry Woodfired Sourdough has been on our list for sometime and we were happy we stopped in for a visit.

Set in a cottage in the quiet leafy back streets of Berry, it’s a quaint historic spot that is in keeping with its heritage. Appealing to look at from the outside, and a steady line of people moving in and out, it’s a good sign of what’s behind the doors.

Step inside to a large area and the visual receptors are in overdrive. Wherever to look first? It’s breakfast time and there are many things vying for attention! First we are drawn to the counter for the baked treats, then the rack of bread and then you come across something that is the heart of this establishment, the Wood fired oven, which is cast and very ornate with an old industrial charm.

The space is rustic in its decor, including restored interior, the teal coffee machine, wooden tables and flooring.

We are seated inside, there is also some seating on the enclosed veranda for smaller groups.

Viewing the menu only creates an issue, the question of what to order? So many of the items appealing enough to order. It takes being put on the spot to make the decision. Ordering the hearty and tasty breakfast of Scrambled eggs with house made kimchi and chipolatas.

Once you have finished breakfast, it’s impossible to leave without purchasing some of their European inspired baked goods, with a range of tarts including macadamia, prune and custard, raspberry and almond, pear and chocolate.

There are also savoury options; sausage rolls, savoury muffins quiche and we had to take some of that woodfired sourdough home with us.

Berry Woodfired Sourdough is a must visit when in the Shoalhaven area, it is worth planning a drive for this alone, let alone all of the other attractions in the area.
