The Renaissance Uluwatu Resort & Spa was our first hotel stay of our Bali trip, and our favourite. Sitting on top of the Uluwatu peak, amongst nature and a short car ride to the coast, this place is the epitome of luxury and relaxation.
They also have a connected beach resort called Roosterfish, less than 10km away.
As you arrive, you’ll be mesmerised by the huge space and incredible view, with a cool breeze passing throughout. It’s aesthetically pleasing, with the marble seating apparently modelled on the cliff sides of Uluwatu.
Our check in was seamless, the staff ever so friendly and offered us warm towels, a juice and cookies. We’re taken to our room and the bellboy brings the bags very speedily.
The hotel features over 207 hotel rooms and suites, including a three-bedroom Presidential Villa. We were in a Junior Suite in Wing 6.
This is the furthest from the lobby and thus needs access via a golf buggy (though I personally walked). Golf buggies were readily available when you called, with very friendly faces eager to please. I would next time choose a smaller room closer to reception to save the hassle of golf buggies, because the wings don’t really all connect that easily and being closer to the lobby just saves time getting to kids club, gym and the top pool. Around the site it is very nicely landscaped and they’ve even got their own temple.
That said, our room was close to the second infinity pool, very picturesque overlooking Uluwatu’s natural surrounds. Our room was “massive” as our son described. Featuring a King bed, extra added bed for our son, a huge kitchen and bathroom area and gigantic bath. Everything is stone and marble so not the best with young kids, but it does look schmick.
The king-size bed has comfy mattress and especially comfy pillows. On both sides of the beds, there are power sockets that have USB outlets and international charging ports. Controls for the lights are also located on either side of the bed. The TV had your typical international channels, we didn’t seem to be able to stream devices or the internet. That said we didn’t stay in our room much as we made use of the facilities.
The kitchen features a kettle, POD coffee machine and products to make a coffee in your room. The only recommendation I’d make is to leave some long life milk in the room fridge as we needed to keep calling for some. The room has a bar fridge if that pleases you. They provide 6 bottles of water and will replenish as requested. Bathroom products including toothbrushes are provided.
Food wise, Clay craft is where you have the buffet breakfast or Ala carte throughout the day. Called this, for you can also do pottery classes in addition to dining there. You can also try Indigenous cuisine at Double Ikat (though we didn’t dine there). The buffet was all you could ever desire! Cereal and bread station, pastries, waffle and crepe making, yoghurts, smoothies, made to order juices, salads and egg stations. Plenty of western hot food, an Asian food station, soups, dosa made to order and proper coffee too. We honestly loved this food selection so much. As the hotel is relatively secluded, you need to dine here, unless you get a taxi out. We tried room service and Ala carte and all was reasonably priced. All food was high quality and fresh.
We booked the shuttle and went down to Roosterfish Beach Club for a meal and a swim in the beachside pool. The menu here is more seafood focused, and they even give you a non-alcoholic drink upon arrival. There’s a DJ and multiple events throughout tbe week.
While at the hotel, take advantage of facilities – from the 2 outdoor infinity pools, with pool tables, water polo, aqua aerobics and poolside drinks to order or inclusive fruit mocktail slushies.
They have a day spa and a 24-hour gym that has great equipment, boxing and stretching classes as well as private lessons if you book. I did boxing which was excellent (class of 3) as well as yoga on the deck at 7am.
The kids club was another winner – the staff here were outstanding! They are more than babysitters, but Teachers. They taught our son yoga, crown making, scavenger hunts and Balinese ceremonies with a trip to the temple. The tree house kids club has daily inclusive activities in addition to the indoor slide, toys, game area, video games, movie spaces, books and the kids have so much fun. I was super comfortable leaving my son there.
We highly recommend a visit to the Renaissance, for it is superior in every way, and worth every dollar. Make the make of the view and the Uluwatu sunshine, for it’s a great break from the busy streets of Kuta !
