The farm has it all; Animals, herb and vegetable Gardens & Country bakery treats, as well as a cafe and a fine dining restaurant. You can also have a lesson or two about soil, bees and sustainability.
There’s something about escaping to the country for the day that instantly slows everything down. Fresh air, open spaces, animals wandering about and the smell of something delicious baking — Burradoo Farm was the perfect place for a relaxed family day out.
Our visit started with a Scavenger Hunt – a great idea to engage the kids. Locate each of the animals (from chickens to highland coos, sheep to pigs), these were, unsurprisingly, a big hit.
We took our time wandering around, stopping to say hello and taking in the peaceful farm surroundings. You can also walk around farm garden to see what they are growing and using in their cafe.
From there, it was time to let the kids to do some activities and run around at the park.
It is the sort of place where you could easily lose track of time simply enjoying the surroundings, so be prepared to stay a few hours. Then came one of the best parts of any country visit — food!
We stopped at the bakery and farm house for something to eat, and it was the perfect way to finish our wanderings. From the bakery, we got pies and sausage rolls, quiche, fresh bread and some croissants as well as a takeaway coffee.
We also dined in their cafe – there’s something about enjoying freshly made food in a farm setting that makes it taste even better. You can’t book so be prepared for a wait. But it’s worth it – I loved their ploughmans platter and the scotch egg was also a favourite.
This cafe is so quaint, situated with part of it that is a general store selling artisan products. Three Blue Ducks has their fancy on site restaurant too – one to visit if you have the $$$
What I loved most about Burradoo Farm was that it wasn’t just about one attraction. It was the whole experience — animals, gardens, playtime, good food and plenty of fresh country air. Be sure to “reserve tickets”. They are free but it is the way to ensure it doesn’t get too busy.
A great escape — and definitely one to add to the list for a relaxed family day out. 🌾
