For those of you who love cooking, baking and eating sweet treats, then this is the place for you. The Cake, Bake and Sweets show is an annual event held in Sydney and Melbourne. This weekend from 23 – 25 November, the show is held at the International Convention Centre Sydney Darling Harbour. In Melbourne the show will be at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. The ICC in Sydney is a great venue – plenty of spaced and it doesn’t feel too crowded.
The show has a variety things to do, see, eat and buy.
There are multiple stages with cooking demonstrations, including the “Sugar Lab”. These demonstrations showcasing the skills of the creative minds in the baking field. These talented chef’s and cooks sharing techniques on how to make the perfect souffle, tempering chocolate, and more. Anna Polyviou is demonstrating her “hot dog, burger and fries”, “Loukou-My-Annas”, and her espresso tiramisu. There are also demonstrations by Eric Lanlard, Kirsten Tibbals and Katherine Sabbath.
We watched Katherine make her Pom Pom Cake live on stage, this dome cake, layered and topped with butter cream and decorated with fluffy marshmallow “Pom Pom’s” was super impressive. It sounds and looks complicated, but she broke this down into small steps, that left me inspired and ready to tackle the task. It was lovely to see her teacher-turned-famous baker in the flesh and it was a delight to listen to her and learn.
There was an alternate stage titled “For the Love of Cooking” showcases grazing platters, gingerbread and gluten free cake tips for entertaining during the festive season. There was also a chocolate masterclass, healthy baking stage and a cake decorating theatre where they take the cake on a journey from canvas to artwork. You will be inspired with stencilling, Christmas themes, watercolour painting and more. There are also some classes where you can “make and take”.
