Situated upstairs of the the birds nest building in the relatively new precinct in Darling Quarter, XOPP is an offshoot of Golden Century.
The decor is industrial with the odd splash of colour. The venue is good for a group catch up or intimate dinner. The space isn’t loud so it works well for conversation.
It was our favourite Golden Century experience to date. We were here dining in a group and ordered a long list of the classics to share.
It started off with a bang, the prawn rolls (2 for $16) were phenomenal and we would have been happy to eat these all night. The XOPP prawn mantou buns were filled with a creamy prawn mixture of XO mayonnaise and sauce and we’d return to eat these alone.
The duck pancakes, duck Choy bow and dumplings were all solid and can’t be faulted. The Japanese wasabi beef was beautifully tender with nice flavours.
Of course, being at XO PP we had to try their XOPP stir fried pippies ($48 for 1/2kg). This dish was another favourite, cooked in a delicious gravy, a generous portion of pippies on top of bed of crispy fried noodles. This is a must order dish when dining at this restaurant
The service was attentive, with staff continuing to fill glasses and always there on hand to assist when we had questions. Overall the hospitality was impeccable.
Whilst it is pricy, it is one of the better Chinese feeds you’ll get in Sydney.
