From the guys who brought us world class cocktail bar Maybe Sammy, comes a coffee shop by day and apertivo cocktail bar by night (Thursdays and Fridays).
Opened by Vince Lombardo, Stefano Catino, and Andrea Gualdi, co-owned with founder of Spiritual Coffee Martin Hudak. Hudak, Asia’s 2019 International Bartender of the Year, and the winner of the 2017 World Coffee in Good Spirits Championship (evidenced by the huge trophy on the counter), certainly knows a thing or two about coffee and cocktails. We’re sure this new CBD location is certainly going to be popular. They’re open til 5 which is great since so many coffee shops these days close far to early and plenty of us do need that afternoon coffee hit.
We’re loving the architecture and design here, the old school charm and Art Deco vibes make it feel suave. Dark green hues with the service counter and banquettes, small white and timber chairs, pastel pink cups makes for a great palette.
Their bespoke coffee, “spiritual cup blend” is excellent. The milk based coffee was nice and smooth and we really enjoyed the flavour but would appreciate it being a little hotter. Sammy Junior also do batch brew, V60 pour over, cold brew, iced coffees and lattes, cascara (hot and cold) as well as Affogato using Mapo gelato. You can also buy bags of coffee beans to take home.
If you’re not a coffee lover, there’s also specialty tea by Ms Cattea and chai, dark chocolate, sodas and juice.
An all day menu from 7am – 5pm is designed for the city worker who might be on the rush or in for a quick bite sees the likes of classic breakfast options like croissants, banana bread, smashed avo, Bircher and chia or even sandwiches, wraps and salad bowls.
They’re open on Thursday and Friday nights and we popped in for opening night. The room oozes sophistication and old school charm with dim lighting and jazz music. We have one of their mini cocktails (100 millilitres) and although small, they are tasty. The Espresso Martini is made with Plantation 3yo Rum, Mr Black, Coconut Water and Espresso. There’s a different options for cocktails, beers and wines and you can also grab a small bite to eat, olives, a cheese platter and $2 oysters but they were sold out by the time we arrived.
We look forward to visiting again for it is a great little CBD haunt for lovers of good coffee and positive vibes.
