Alevri HQ – Greek bakery cafe

Alevri is a fabulous Greek café, with stores in Dulwich Hill, Roselands and the venue we visited in Kingsford. The Kingsford store can be found in the Castellorizian Club and is referred to as Alevri.HQ (or the headquarters).

Head into the store and the bright white interior and geometric patterns has the feeling of Greece. Staff give you a friendly welcome as they encourage you to look in the display cases as they explain the food offerings.

Peruse the menu if you like to order more substantial meals as well and make your order at the counter. Food is delivered to your table or packaged up if you’re getting takeaway. Using fresh ingredients, all food is made in house and there are so many delicious options to choose from.

For their brunch dishes, whether it be Athenian baked eggs, Baklava French toast, or even a Mediterranean Breakfast Board, there’s plenty to choose from. We ordered the Mykonian eggs – a bowl of creamy scrambled eggs with organic ham, crumbled feta, green peppers, sautéed mushrooms, topped with delicious hand cut chips and a slice of sourdough. Such a great dish and portions are certainly generous. At lunch the menu offers a club sandwich, burgers, lunch players and salads.

We’re sure you’re eager to hear about the pastry goods. There is a Moussaka pie, which looks like a regular quiche or pie, and filled with moussaka, its steaming hot and filled with flavoured mince, eggplant and cheese. All the things that you love about moussaka and a pie in one. And you must order the Cheeseburger roll. It’s roll filled with cheeseburger ingredients – the meat pattie, cheese, sauce, mustard, pickles and it is so so good!

We also loved the Peynerli. There’s a few variations of this boat shaped baked good. It is like a pizza with a fluffy base and topped with flavours. There is one with Leek, sausage kransky, mustard and ketchup and another ham and runny egg. We had the spinach and ricotta peynerli, a savoury delight that was baked perfectly. They’re also a decent size for the price too.

Furthermore they also have breads, biscuits, pastries, pies, small cakes that you can have by the piece or whole cakes for celebrations
There’s Baklava Cheesecake, Baklava French Toast, Ekmek Kataifi and galaktoboureko to name a few.

There’s also sugar and coconut donuts, raisin koulouri, tsoureni, kaseropita (goats cheese pie),Tiropita (feta pie), chicken pie – bacon, mushroom and bechamel sauce, spanakopita (and even a vegan one).

Coffee wise, they’ve got your regular milk based coffees, chai and turmeric lattes, tea and a range of Greek coffees; Freddo espresso and the Freddo cappuccino. We enjoyed a thick and caffeine laden Greek kaffe that kept us alert for the day ahead. We recommend a shake, and the Baklava shake is sweet and super good. They also offer an Ion shake, Melomakarono shake and a Banoffee shake. Perfect for that sugary perk up.

Alevri is a great Greek cafe and we look forward to returning. Thank you to the staff involved for their kind hospitality.
