Our knowledge of kebabs has mostly been from eating a greasy one after a night out. Since then, we haven’t really gone purposely to kebab shops. But now, after visiting New Star Kebab I’m sure that intentional destination visit for a sit down meal will most definitely be happening more often.

New Star Kebab is located in the heart of Auburn and is serving up a range of Turkish food for the masses. It’s the OG of kebab stores and a local institution, which has been run by Atilla Tok for over 25 years.

It’s so popular and there’s line ups down the street, people hanging for their Turkish feed. And understandably, the meals are delicious, massing servings and thus good value and perfect for sharing.

From the street frontage you can see staff cooking the meat skewers over hot coals. All meat is also halal and of high quality. Staff are then serving them up on the shish plates with pickles and breads. Once in store, you can see all the salads, the rolling kebab wheels and staff rolling dough for the pizza and pide. Staff here are fun, friendly and working so hard. They don’t stop, bringing out more food to get cooked, making pizza and serving customers.

We arrived ready for a Turkish feast and to say the potions are huge, is an understatement. A basket of freshly baked Turkish Bread is complimentary and great for dipping or mopping up any sauce. We had this with a shish plate with chicken, lamb and beef served with tomato, red cabbage, onion, roast hot chili, lemon and more Turkish bread.

In addition to this we also had a falafel plate. The falafel were sitting on a plate of salad, lettuce, tabouli, tomatoes, grated cheese and hummus. Perfect to add to a wrap. We loved smothering our food with their yoghurt and their special red sauce. So saucy and oh so good!

New Star have something for everyone’s and their Gozleme is also a must. We had the Turkish savoury crepes filled with spinach and ricotta, and it’s such a big serve, we took some for the next day.

They have all your other key menu items from vine leaves to kofte, Adana kebab plates, and doner kebab rolls as well as pizza, and fries. Their fries are the best! Crispy, and heaps of chicken salt. Old school type of chips are the best!

We loved our visit for its great value, tasty food and servings so generous, you’ll need to bring the family. It’s worth it!
