Mere is a new concept store selling leather goods with a courtyard cafè out the back. This joint is a hidden gem located half way down Bondi Rd on the way to the Beach. Mere is a great spot to drop in on if you are in the area or on your way to or from Bondi Beach.
Work up an appetite browsing the store with its cool range of mens and womens bags, shoes, belts, wallets and clothing. Once we were done browsing we headed out back to the cafè. We were greeted by the friendly staff and grabbed a table outside.
The courtyard is a nice outdoor space with a rustic set up and just a touch of hipster. There are bench seats around the perimeter with some coffee tables suiting people stopping by for a coffee, there are also larger tables for groups or for patrons stopping by for a meal. The tables are and chairs are an eclectic mix of glass coffee tables, an old school desk and some rustic outdoor furniture. There are samples of art work from the boutique, which have a mexican/nautical/Bondi hipster vibe. There was also some background music playing, making this an ideal place to chill and soak up some sun rays.
Arrived for brunch just after 11am, so got to choose from both the breakfast and lunch menu’s; breakfast is served between 9am-12pm and lunch is 11am-4pm.
The breakfast menu is reasonably priced and was very inviting with some great options available including gluten free and vegetarian. There is an assortment of small bites including cakes and pastries, banana bread croissants and gluten free bagels. There are variety of egg based breakfasts as well as granola. The lunch menu is pretty simple, they have bahn mi with fresh salad and choice of protein including slow pork cooked shoulder, seasame crusted tofu and free range chicken slow roasted with lemon and rosmary. Gluten free bread options are available for both breakfast and lunch.
The beverage list included coffee and chai by single origin roasters, guatemalan hot chocolate, loose leaf tea and fresh cold press juice. I ordered a latte which was very nice.
From the breakfast menu I went with the sourdough toast topped with ricotta, fresh figs, proscuitto, honey walnuts and aged balsamic. A great choice with good flavour combinations and different textures of the creamy ricotta, salty prosciutto, sweetness of the fresh figs and crunch of the honey walnuts. From the lunch menu we went with the slow cooked pulled pork shoulder Bahn mi was selected. Also nice, with a generous serve of fresh salad including iceburg lettuce, roma tomato, pickled carrot, cucumber, birds eye chilli, mayo and soy sauce.
