Visit the Blue Mountains and stay at the Fairmont, Leura

Looking for a weekend getaway that has it all? Look no further, because the Fairmont Resort and spa is perfect for couples, friends and it is an amazing place for families too.

Located in the Jamison Valley, in the Blue Mountains, about 90 mins drive from Sydney. It is only 5 minutes or so drive from Leura and Katoomba. The View is sublime and and you absolutely feel like you’re getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

As you enter into the resort, it feels like a big log cabin with wood decor, leather couches, fireplaces, plaid carpet some great Australian artwork and an iconic view of the Blue Mountains.

It’s a boutique hotel, operating under the Sofitel M Gallery name, part of the Accor Group. Check in is easy and make your way to the room, with the staff delivering your bags to the door. Large rooms with really comfortable beds and pillows, as well as a sofa. The room has a kettle with tea and coffee, as well a mini bar. There’s bath robes, a hairdryer and laundry service if you need it. The bathroom has all the amenities you need, supplied with products from their Ubeika day spa.

The day spa on site is super relaxing and you are greeted by really lovely staff, taken into a room and offered herbal tea and a glass of water. There’s plenty of treatments available, including body scrubs, massage and facials. The deep cell hydration facial was very good and it certainly gave my skin a lot of moisture. The treatment room was relaxing and comfortable. The products are also available to purchase. The service is probably a little pricy, however it is the Fairmont in the Blue Mountains.

For the family, they’ve really gone every length to provide facilities to keep the kids busy. There’s a mirror maze, arcade games and ball pits. They have $10 pony rides and even train and car rides. The front entrance also has an aquarium.

Leisure wise, there’s plenty. Two tennis courts, a gym, indoor and outdoor pools, as well as a spa and sauna.

On the weekend, there’s yoga at 8am for $10. If you’re into golf, the Leura Golf Club is on site. Fees are $45 if you’re staying at the hotel. A well kept scenic course in a picturesque location. The course is in the mountains and is very undulating, a motorised cart can be hired for $40.

There’s large venue spaces so it would be perfect for conferences and weddings.

Food wise, there’s a few restaurants on site. We didn’t eat lunch or dinner there since it was booked out. They told us it was booked out despite there being empty tables. If you plan to eat there, book early. We had the inclusive buffet breakfast, which had a good variety of cereals, breads, fruits, hot food and even and egg station. The Vittoria coffee Machine is a good addition. Our only gripe is offering the cereal in individual plastic bags, which isn’t environmentally friendly. Surely they could have cereal dispensers to minimise waste. Staff were extremely efficient and cleared your plates as quick as you ate from them.

There is a lounge bar at the front of the hotel, selling beer, wine and cocktails as well as coffees and cakes. We liked this area and spent a bit of time there. At one point it was pretty busy and we tried to have a drink at “Embers”, though they wouldn’t allow this due to us not eating. They should really reconsider this as an option.

A great resort with all of the amenities, slightly let down by the dinner service at Embers. Perfect for a getaway only 2hrs from Sydney.
