Doughnut Day, held on June 7 annually is not just a day to think about the blessed little sugar laden deep fried carbohydrate circles of goodness, but to reflect on why we celebrate this day in the first place?
In World War 1, Salvation Army volunteers made doughnuts for soldiers, as well as a cup of coffee to provide sustenance during the war. It then became a day to celebrate these volunteers and raise money for charity at the same time.
Whether you’re like me and prefer the original cinnamon sugar dusted doughnut or the ‘loaded’ type that are causing all the hype these days, it is the best day to head to your local doughnut store and snap up a few of your favourite.
