For a seaside escape that is only 2.5 hours from the Sydney CBD, we recommend a visit to Bangalay Luxury Villas, who we found through Destination NSW. Here you will find this an absolutely stunning location, amongst the backdrop of the Shoalhaven Heads beach, golf course and national park. It has a laid back and comfortable vibe, where you feel worlds away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
You should also check out the local area, not far you’ll find Nowra, Kiama and Gerringong and only 15 minutes to the historic town of Berry.
We meet Michelle, owner and concept creator of Bangalay who explains how Bangalay came to fruition. Her idea was to emit the idea of a nostalgic beach holiday to customers, showcasing the Shoalhaven region just as she did as a child. This she and her husband did, the site purchased right on the beach with the property’s back gate opening out into the Bangalay Sandforest where you see an area rich in plant life including eucalypt, banksia, lily pili and other Australian natives.
Follow the decking straight out to Seven Mile Beach and take a walk, chat with the friendly locals and their pups, and even see horses galloping on the sands.
The site is comprised of 16 luxury villas, all connected by wooden boardwalk decking, flanked by beautiful native plants, re-vegetated on site. There are 1 or 2 Bedroom villas with either a garden or golf course view, as well as a 4BDR holiday house.
We stayed in a 1 Bedroom golf course view villa which was a well-appointed room that felt like our own little retreat. As you open the door to your villa via the electronic touch pad, you find yourselves in a light filled apartment that is tastefully styled. Michelle, with a background in interior design has certainly nailed the décor in fitting with their concept, every detail has been carefully considered.
An interior styling featuring cane tables, wooden baskets and wooden floors, the aesthetics are reflective of the surrounding nature.
The spacious villas have all the comforts of home, so you really escape and have everything you need on site. Large bedrooms with wardrobes and drawer space, air con and ceiling fans and charging stations. The combined lounge and dining has a comfortable couch, coffee table complete with reading material on what to do in the local area, provided by Shoalhaven Tourism.
We love that the artwork carries the theme of native greenery into the villa with banksia artworks adorning the walls.
There’s a fireplace and reading lamp so you can relax in here for hours.
The bathroom has a fountain head shower, luxury aspar products and they can re-supply your towels daily, or for the ecofriendly folk, place your towel back up on the hook.
If you’re here for a longer stay, you may like to make use of the laundry washing machine/dryer, iron, ironing board and vacuum in each villa. The villa is self-contained and the kitchen has a stovetop, fridge, microwave, dishwasher, and coffee pod machine. There is also free wi-fi in the villa and throughout the property.
We like that they have made it eco-friendly, with biodegradable coffee pods, electric charging points for cars, use of bicycles on site and the restaurant does not use plastic straws.
There is a stunning pool with lounges to relax. The site is accessible to all as the villas and restaurant are all on ground level. Suitable for families, the property has cots for use, high chairs in the restaurants and a kid friendly menu.
They have a fine dining restaurant on site that offers tasting menus, ala carte, as well as breakfasts created by Head Chef Brent Strong, whose focus is on showcasing the beautiful natural ingredients of the Shoalhaven region. Keep an eye out for our blog on the restaurant.
There is currently a winter special with 20% off one bedroom villas and 10% off the two bedroom villas for stays until Aug 31, 2019. See their website for more details.
This upscale retreat is all you need for a relaxing stay in the area.
