Coolangatta Estate is a winery in the Shoalhaven. Coolangatta has a long history and thus they have selected a name which derives from the local Aboriginal dialect, pronounced cullungatti, meaning beautiful view. This, you will soon discover if take the incredible Bigfoot Adventure tour in the monster truck to the top of the mountain.

The bigfoot tour Guide Bruno has amassed a great knowledge of the area, since starting back in 1984 and gives you a greater understanding and appreciation of the area and its history.

The Estate was originally built by convicts and is now owned by the Bishops, a local family who refurbished the ex-convict village into a hotel and winery.

The Bigfoot Adventure tour is highly recommended, it involves rolling bumpy climb to the top of an official mountain 300m over 1000ft, in a monster truck. The short journey showcases stunning views over Shoalhaven, Seven Mile Beach and Saddleback Mountain Range. We were informed that it is possible to spot whales from afar. Some fun facts are shared on the tour; the first commercial flight left from Sevenmile beach, it took 14 hrs and was flown by Charles Kingsford Smith, the plane the southern cross and the cargo Australias 1st bag of international airmail.

Let’s not forget the estate is also a winery.

The grapes are picked by hand and sent to the Hunter, where the wine makers work their magic. The Coolangatta Estate climate is suited to make lighter style wines and mainly whites. Their Semillion is the flagship and is Australia’s most awarded. The wine tasting itself a great experience, the staff very knowledgeable and enjoy explaining the ins and outs of their range.

Plan a weekend escape and check out the understated Shoalhaven region, it’s not far from Sydney or the Gong and there is plenty to see and do, and it is also a great spot for a relaxing escape.
