The Kogarah Clubhouse is a newly renovated destination venue located in the southern suburbs of Sydney, just 15 minutes south of Sydney’s CBD. It has reopened as a drinking, dining and social hub housing restaurants, bars and entertainment. It is cool space for locals and visitors from afar, keen for a few drinks, a catch up or a bite to eat.

It’s only a short distance from the train station and Kogarah oval, making it an ideal venue to visit before or after a sporting event. The bar is a comfortable spot to enjoy a drink and some nibbles. It has a great range of drinks on the menu and reasonably priced too, at only $5.80 a schooner! There is a good selection of wine, an extensive list of spirits, and whisky in particular.

There is plenty to choose from on tap including craft beer, alcoholic ginger beer, kombucha, and Rosé, amongst others. There are a number of intriguing cocktails on the list to keep the night interesting. We found it hard to pick a favourite, so we tried a few! The ‘Fairy Godmother’ was a winner. The bright red drink was made with beefeater pink gin, cointreau blood orange, campari and topped off with strawberries. A beautifully sweet drink that was a great start to our night.

This week, the special was an old fashioned for only $12 and we also opted for the Tim Tam, made with frangelico, buffalo trace bourbon, tia maria, licor 43.

It was certainly a treat. For those who have to wear the designated driver hat, many of their cocktails can be made as mocktails, or alcohol free. The espresso martini was just as good as a normal one, just minus the booze.

The bar and lounge surrounds are stunning, with their styling on point, featuring peach and maroon tones, wooden bar stools, copper bar taps and mosaic tiles. The colours work well together. The hanging basketry pendant lights and greenery makes it feel like an urban oasis.

The staff are absolutely delightful and each and every interaction we had with a range of staff showcased their love of the job and keenness to do everything to help. This is clearly testament to a good hiring and training process. We appreciated chatting to the passionate General Manager who has put his all into keeping the venue a place for long term loyal customers to return as well as accruing a new crowd too.

In terms of eateries, you’ll find three venues; The Pearl Asian Eating House, Blake Street Kitchen as well as the revived Clubhouse Bar where you can grab some bar food with your drinks.

The Pearl Asian Eating House offers yum cha open 7 days. There is also Blake Street Kitchen, where we enjoyed dinner. They serve bistro fare including all day breakfast, lunch and dinner. They also brew coffee from the Grounds on a La Marzocco Coffee machine. A great way to also have a coffee in the afternoon or evening, which in Sydney is often hard to find.

The Blake Street venue is a casual dining space with a few covered alfresco tables, and plenty inside. We sat inside at one of the tables with a cushioned back seat. We love the maroon velveteen cushions and Art Deco artwork which makes for a cool spot.

The menu has plenty of popular choices for a bistro at super reasonable prices. The food here comes in extraordinary generous portions, so you’re certainly getting your money’s worth. Whether it be a parmigiana, steak, burger or pasta, you’ll find something to satisfy.

We shared the Chicken Quinoa Salad ($17) complete with almonds, carrots, spinach, roasted beetroot, pumpkin seed, feta cheese and homemade lemon dressing. It was a refreshing salad and really nicely grilled chicken sitting atop the salad and plated with a few sliced radishes.

We really enjoyed the Market Fish of the Day, which was a huge piece of salmon, cooked to perfection and served with plenty of rosemary garlic chat potatoes, summer salsa, tarte & lemon wedge. At only $25, it is one of the best value seafoods we’ve seen in a while.

In addition, we also had the Seafood Bowl, complete with Grilled prawns, Squid, some grilled barramundi and Battered fish, Calamari, Seafood stick, and prawn cutlets as well as chips and a garnish salad. Again super reasonable price for the size – only $20.

Between the two of us, it was a lot of food, so you could easily order two dishes to share. That said we demolished it all, just couldn’t fit in dessert. Keep that dessert belly a little empty for the Creme brûlée or sticky date pudding looked unreal.

An all round great venue for a drink and dinner in a comfortable setting. With great staff and good prices, you can’t go wrong. Head in and try it for yourself.
