We’ve been wanting to try RaRa Ramen for a while but every time we drive by Redfern, there’s a huge line. Not that this is a bad thing, since it shows how super popular the restaurant is.
We heard it had opened up in Randwick in the Newmarket dining precinct, so decided to pay this place a visit. Unfortunately due to the Covid19 restrictions, our first time trying RaRa Ramen was takeaway. Food isn’t always great takeaway, but this was superb. We can only imagine what it must be like in store, but it the takeaway is anything to go by, we’re in for a treat.
We ordered online and picked up in store, we got a notification as to it being ready, so the transition was easy.
The menu has a good range of Ramen options, the traditional Tonkotsu, Mazesoba (no broth) and also vegan ramen. They also do rice bowls and sizes such as gyoza.
I had the Vegan Miso Ramen, made with a soy based broth to provide the creamy texture, topped with grilled seasoned tofu, charred corn, purple cabbage, bean sprouts, shallots, black fungus and added on grilled mushroom. Such lovely flavours, generous amounts of noodles and a perfect meal for winter.
Kurt got the traditional Tonkotsu Ramen, with a Pork Tonkotsu shio, topped with pork chashu, seasoned bamboo, ajitsuku tamago (egg), shallots, and black fungus. The broth was incredible and probably the best ramen we’ve had.
The broth is brewed for 14 hours with a secret recipe handed down generations and noodles hand made in store, produced in a custom-built steel machine imported from Japan. A combination of both elements with selected toppings has made for a quality bowl of ramen.
