Pilgrims, a Vegetarian cafe hailing from Milton on the South Coast is now going great guns in Bronte. With a sustainable and ethical focus, it’s become very popular in a short time. The cafe offers breakfast and lunch menus as well as a Mexican dinner.
Beautiful interiors, with white-washed brick walls, pendant lights, wicker chairs, and plenty of space for diners inside and a few tables alfresco. The light shining in makes a bright cafe and it feels spacious and calming.
We’ve previously visited and enjoyed a few of their massive vegetarian burgers, salads and wraps. Their meals are fresh, healthy, tasty and super generous on size.
We revisited for their Mexican dinner at an early time of 5:30, which was perfect for it wasn’t too busy and a really chilled space for dinner. You can even grab a beer or wine too!
We order the “Mexican open bowl” with all of our burrito ingredients; spicy (but not really that spicy) red beans, refried potato, brown rice, guacamole, sour cream and salsa, served with mixed greens. The plate was massive, and even for a big eater, Kurt struggled to finish it, so that’s clearly a generous serving.
My meal was quite similar, the “north shore plate” Mexican black bean brew on a bed of brown rice, combined with sides of sour cream, guacamole, jalapeño salsa, lettuce, tomato salsa and served with a light and fluffy delicious toasted homemade corn bread. I could eat this stuff daily!
On the menu, you can also get tacos, quesadillas, and enchiladas. It’s not the kind of Mexican you’ll find at your local fast food joint, more a healthy, wholesome and hearty version. You can grab a few sides too like veggie chips or a dip plate.
The Mexican dinner is available Fridays and Saturdays from 5:30pm-9pm. Head to their website to reserve a table!
