Doytao @ Newtown

It was a cold Saturday night and we were wanting somewhere to warm us up, and what better way, than with a curry.

We were racking our brains on where to go and Doytao Thai, an old favourite we hadn’t visited in a while came to mind. The recently upgraded road from Mascot through the back of Alexandria helped make up our mind, for you can travel there in no time.

Anyway, it had been a long while since we had visited and we were lucky enough to secure a table on walk in. It was comforting to know Doytao take COVID protocols very seriously. All diners are made to sign in and all staff wearing PPE persol protective equipment, including face masks, gloves and face shields.

The restaurant occupies a large space with an open kitchen visible as you walk in. The space could be descibed as dimly lit and could probably do with an update, a littlelack lustre. However we weren’t here for the design of the restaurant space and didn’t particularly care, especially when we were tucking into their delicious Penang chicken curry. Boy oh boy was this a good curry, the best we have had in a long time. The sauce fragrant with the kaffir lime leaves was noticeable. We had a serve of rice and roti, to soak up much of the sauce and a spoon helped with what was left.

We also ordered the sizzling seafood dish, an assortment of prawns, fish, squid, scallops and vegetables served on a sizzling plate. An enjoyable dish, a good portion nicely prepared seafood with plenty of prawns and fish.

We enjoyed our visit and will be returning again very soon for that amazingly good Panang chicken curry.
