Mapo is a small artisanal and sustainable gelato shop at the Northern end of Newtown towards Sydney University.
The fit out is minimalist, with a long bench, plywood clad walls covered in a list of the daily offerings. Gelato flavours made using natural, raw and organic ingredients without artificial additives.
The colours and flavours come from the ingredients used in the gelato. The gelatos are super creamy and really tasty. The quintessential Italian flavour is fior di latte, their creamy milk which they always have, as well as plenty of fruit based (60% fruit) like watermelon, honey dew melon, and plum and their rotating specials. Other flavours include roasted macadamia, caramello, giandujia, matcha, stracciatella and pistachio. They do have some vegan options.
One of my favourites is the Pepe Saya Butter with sea salt caramel and a natural raw honey and sea salt caramel sauce add on.
