Chocolate lovers rejoice, for you can have your chocolate fix and more at the Guylian Cafe, feasting on a range of indulgent desserts using the finest Belgian Chocolates in a cafe environment in the heart of Sydney.
With stores in Darling quarter, Circular Quay, George st and Parramatta, we visit the Iconic Rocks area store. In a stunning heritage building, the cafe occupies a large corner space. Enter via a small set of stairs at the main entrance to Guylian Belgian but there’s also an accessible side entrance. There’s also an outside seating area if you prefer to enjoy the sunshine.
Inside the cafe are long glass cabinets, showcasing the desserts on offer and a large coffee machine with staff brewing coffees and prepping hot chocolate. The furnishings see comfy lounge seats along the wall and plenty of space to sit. There’s a giant glass bubble feature lighting, gold light fittings and It’s decorated for Christmas when we visit.
Breakfast, lunch or anytime of the day treats, Guylian boast an all-day menu, not only of decadent chocolate treats, but also savoury meals such as bacon & eggs, quiche, sandwiches or even a beer or glass of wine.
In addition to their famous hot chocolate, Guylian also sell an exclusive 100% Arabica coffee blend as well as a selection of smoothies, shakes & cold drinks including iced chocolate, coffee or mocha.
We of course must try their hot chocolate, which you can order with your chocolate preference, whether it be Milk, Dark, Hazelnut Praliné, Coconut, Peppermint, Banana & Caramel or the Flavour of the Month. We try the original milk as well as a hazelnut. The cup comes with a famous Guylian piece; the seahorse or shell in the bottom of the cup and your pour in a jug of the hot liquid to dissolve the chocolate in front of you! The best hot chocolate for it is pure chocolate, enabling you to savour the flavour in at least 2 cups!
For the desserts, we try two of their specials; the Raspberry fondant and the mango egg. The mango vanilla egg is a picture perfect white chocolate crunchy egg shell filled with vanilla mousse and a mango liquid centre resting on a cocoa sable base and chocolate nest. Tap the chocolate and crack your egg, revealing the soft, gooey and sweet inside. An absolute work of art and delicious treat.
We love a fondant and this is certainly a good one. When you break into the chocolate cake exterior, the liquid centre chocolate fondant oozes out and it is perfect to scoop up and eat with the warm vanilla ice cream. It also presents beautifully, decorated with freeze-dried raspberries and a chocolate Guylian label.
When you’re in store, you’ll spend plenty of time scanning the dessert window, struggling to pick one, for there’s also a huge range of signature desserts. After deliberating for some time, we end up opting for the chocolate delice – it looks like a fancy donut, with a biscuit base, caramel mousse & glaze, popcorn!
We also grab one of the stunning cherry ripe tarts, and if you love a cherry ripe, then this is the dessert for you!
Don’t fret, if you have dietary requirements, Guylian even have some vegan desserts too.
We had a great visit, sampling some delicious treats. Perfect for the sweet tooth out there!
