When your popular neighbourhood cafe closes down, you never quite know what will take its spot. Anticipation rises as we see the outdoor mural replaced with white paint and pink climbing flowers, and a large green cow at the entrance.

We witness hard work being done in the lead up to the opening of the cafe and the drizzle of photos being uploaded to IG gets us excited.

Lennox and I arrive early on opening day, and the friendly Coral takes our order. A babycino it is. It was obviously a good experience, for that night Lennox asks to “go to Benzies tomorrow and see Coral”. The next day he also introduces himself to Theo. The new owners are friendly and hospitable, cementing themselves as quite popular in the area. We love that the cafe opens early and shuts late, because having a child means coffee is on the cards all the time.

We’ve been each day since and tried lots of things. The menu is great, quite extensive with a mix of healthy and more indulgent breakfast options like pancakes, Benedict or salads, make your own salad, burgers and sandwiches. The burgers and sandwiches are big, and delicious. The burger, made on a milk bun, with the most tasty of sauces is phenomenal and some very good chippies come with it. The chicken sandwich is so good and such a decent portion could easily be served between 2. We also like that there are heaps of kiddie options too.

Juices, smoothies, tea and coffee, with Mecca being used as their bean. A bite sized brownie served complimentarily is a nice touch. Too often, cafes neglect this sort of thing and when we experience it, we are very grateful.

If sweets are your thing, check out the window of cakes and cookies. With the already offered M&M cookie, add some gingerbread men and Lennox might never leave.
