Our polish friend introduced us to Polish food alchemy572 in Surry Hills. To think we’ve walked past all these times and never visited! We took her recommendations and had a great time trying polish dumplings, or pierogi, of all the different flavours, both the fried and boiled versions; potato and cheese, beef, mushroom and sauerkraut, and my favourite- Spinach, feta and ricotta. These were super enjoyable and on the fried ones, there was some diced bacon and a side of sour cream with others – a good addition!

We also had plenty of pickles, a boul of sauerkraut and an entree- the smalec: pork and duck spread with bread.

For the mains, we shared ghoulash in a fried potato pancake, – a really really tasty dish and the Gołąbek – Cabbage Roll! We found the food to be so so tasty – comfort food, very filling!

We were pretty full by this time but since it was a birthday we ended the meal with some “medicines” or home made style vodka schnapps and cake – the mix cake of baked cheese cake, apple, poppy seed.

The environment and ambience is just perfect. The set up is quaint – lace table clothes and single red rose to make it feel intimate. Traditional home feeling to the restaurant, and the fact that it’s run by owner Janusz Pawlak and his wife makes it all the more authentic and special. Pawlak is a character – makes you instantly feel welcomed and the comedy is appreciated.

We really enjoyed our visit here.
