Located on the site of the University of Sydney, St Paul’s Events and Stays (within St Paul’s College) provides unique and contemporary accommodation at an excellent central location in the Sydney CBD. Whether you’re here for University, a conference, wedding, a short stay or simply a night out, St Paul’s College is ideal for it is your gateway to the CBD, Broadway, Glebe, Redfern and Newtown.
St Paul’s is the oldest college in Australia and was founded in 1856. During the term time, the old buildings house undergraduates, and just taking a walk around the site, you’ll see a long and beautiful history here, for the buildings are absolutely stunning with their sandstone exterior, wooden floors and hallways and beautiful heritage décor.
The newer additions include Graduate House, which can be rented for those wanting a reasonably priced stay in the Sydney CBD. You can purchase these rooms independently, as tourist, or hire it as part of a group for corporate events and also host weddings here through St Paul’s events and stays.
It is a unique experience to say on this picturesque site overlooking the original college and University Grounds. From the roof top, you even get a brilliant view of the city skyline and perfect to watch the sun set.
The Graduate building is only 1 year old and thus all the rooms and facilities are in outstanding condition, offering contemporary and stylish rooms.
The rooms on offer include 1 bedroom apartments, 2 bedroom apartments, standard studios and attic studios. We stayed in a super studio on the first floor of the academic wing. The building has lift access to the rooms. Our room was very spacious, fit with modern amenities. The room has a Queen size bed, desk and cupboard (with an extra blanket, hairdryer, iron and ironing board). The desk enables you to get work done, for there is also free wi-fi access.
There is also a large L shaped couch and TV with a coffee table and a couple of magazines provided to assist with what’s on in Sydney. A book on the history of St Paul’s College is a nice touch.
I liked that the room had it’s own kitchenette with a fridge, cooktop, utensils and serving ware should you decide to eat in. A bench table and stools was somewhere I liked to sit to read, do work and have a coffee. Rooms also have a POD coffee machine and tea and coffee provided if you’d prefer to make your own with the kettle.
Bathrooms are of a decent size and bathroom products are provided for use. We found the room to be super comfortable. There there are also common facilities for use such as a huge kitchen and servery, a communal lounge room and dining room, rooftop terrace (perfect for events), an outdoor bbq and fire place as well as a laundry. This makes the accommodation ideal for large groups having a conference or even a wedding.Whilst you are staying, you also have full access to the library and gymnasium amongst other areas.
The area was great and we walked into the city for a bit of a shopping trip, we went to Redfern for ice cream and the next morning to Newtown for a coffee. We feel it is a great place for an overnight stay in a comfortable and well appointed room and staying here gave us a great feel for the historic past mixed with the present styling.
We’d encourage you to check out their site if you’re interested in holding events, for there are plenty of outdoor spaces like coutyards and gardens and a marquee could also be set up on the oval. There are also lots on indoor rooms of varying sizes and the venue offers all-inclusive event packages and an events team who can work on the logistics and tailor this to suit your needs. The accommodation means your guests can easily stay on site.
Overall this is a lovely and unique site and we’d encourage you to check it out for yourselves.
We’d like to thank St Paul’s Events and Stays for the great accommodation and hospitality provided, as well as Vandal and Co for arranging our stay.
