Pilgrims, a Vegetarian cafe hailing from Milton on the South Coast has opened its doors in Bronte. Located in a strip of cafes and shops with a sustainable and ethical focus, only doors up from the famed Iggys Bread.
The local area of Bronte is a hip and affluent beachside suburb where you’ll find plenty of health and fitness conscious locals (and their pups) out for a walk and cafe hopping. Pilgrims is therefore quite apt with its vegetarian and health conscious focus, and it also fits a gap in the market since there are not many similar cafes around.
We love the decor and interior, designed by local architect firm Lane & Grove. Clean white-washed brick walls, pendant lights, wicker chairs, and plenty of space for diners inside and a few tables alfresco. The light shining in makes a bright cafe and it feels spacious and calming.
As for the menu, Pilgrims do vegetarian food well. Their main menu items are amazing curried lentil or brown rice patties which can be ordered as burgers, wraps or even bun less.
We had the haloumi salad and also a garden salad, full with rice, hummus, olives, feta and a side of veggie fries.
We also tried the bliss burger and a veggie pie, with a side of fries of course. The food is super fresh, and servings are extremely generous and we left feeling completely nourished and satisfied.
Pilgrims also do dinners on Fridays and Saturdays from 5–9pm with a Mexican influence. The menu hosts burritos, tacos, nachos and Mexican bowls.
Drinks wise, grab yourself a fresh juices, tea, coffee or my favourite – a chai latte.
We recommend getting there early, for it was super busy. Staff were helpful in doing their best to seat you as quickly as possible. We want to comment on how impressed we were with the service. Despite ordering at different times, they made sure to check we received our food at similar times and monitoring if we were waiting on anything. They also were very accommodating with a high chair for my sisters baby and assisted with packaging surplus of our meal to go. They’ve clearly implemented a successful training system. We’re sure it will remain busy and thus are happy to hear that they are soon to implement an online booking system.
Kudos to all involved
