The Wild Flower Bar & Dining @ Bells at Killcare

Bells at Killcare is a luxury 5 star boutique hotel / private coastal retreat situated up in the beautiful surrounding hills of Killcare, only 1.5 hours from Sydney.

Whilst staying there, or even just pop in for a visit and dine at their on site restaurant: “The Wild Flower Bar & Dining”. The restaurant could be described as sophisticated causal dining, with a comfortable dining room and quality service.

Culinary Director Sean Connolly has curated an excellent menu drawing inspiration from the Mediterranean. They use produce grown and harvested in the their own vegetable garden. They also like to use local suppliers for other ingredients and bake their own bread in house.

We began with two entrees; the scampi crudo, and octopus carpaccio. The scampi were nicely seasoned and served raw, chilled and sliced, a lovely fresh dish to start the meal.

The octopus carpaccio was absolutely beautiful in presentation and taste. Thinly sliced pieces of octopus, marinated in onion, chilli, herbs, capers and a generous lashing of olive oil.

The bouillabaisse was a delicious seafood stew. It was evident that time was put into soup to instil plenty of flavour, it also had a good hit of spice. The shellfish were all perfectly cooked, a great version of this dish and would definitely order again. Bread was served with the meals and was good to mop up the remaining soup.

The whole grilled fish was the standout of the night. Perfectly cooked, the soft fish fell off the bone easily and was nicely seasoned with olive oil and a side of herb salsa.

There’s some cool options that are prepared table site such as their beef tartare which is mixed in front of your own eyes. There were desserts but by this stage we were quite full.

They also have a portion of this menu available daily as in room dining and takeaway (available 12-5pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday and midweek 3–5pm). On our first night, we ordered room service and had an amazing eggplant moussaka and pasta rigatoni with king prawns and chilli.

Drink wise, you can have a cocktail from their bar or a drink from their extensive wine list, much of which is visible in their restaurant cellar.

The restaurant also serves the breakfast which is included in your room. Select your choices from the continental menu; pastries, bread baked in house, yoghurt, fruit, house made granola and juice. You can then select a hot dish; we loved their porridge with rhubarb, and also their frittata and baked eggs. Made to order, everything is so fresh and we were so satisfied. There’s also a huge range of leaf tea and barista made coffee.
