Alpha restaurant is a high quality Greek Restaurant that can normally be found on Castlereagh St in the CBD. As they’re undergoing renovations, they’ve opened up a pop-up down at Campbell’s Store in the Rocks at the waters edge, close to the Park Hyatt.
Open Wednesday – Saturday dinner from 5pm as well as lunches on Friday and Sunday from 12 noon. We enjoyed a Sunday lunch there and it’s a beautiful setting for it, sitting outside looking out at the harbour, the tall ships and the ferries passing by the Opera House.
Alpha is a contemporary Greek restaurant designed by Chef Peter Conistis and there’s a great range of much loved Greek food with a modern twist.
We began with grilled pita and a few dips to enjoy with a few cocktails. Resting with these whilst we decided upon our entrees and mains. It’s hard to choose from such a great selection.
The Eggplant Moussaka is certainly an inspired version. Rather than the layers of eggplant and lashings of cheese, this sophisticated plate sees three beautifully cooked scallops sitting between two chargrilled slices of eggplant topped with Taromasalata and diced tomato. It’s a work of art on the plate and amazing taste.
The twice cooked Albrohos octopus was stunning – light and well flavoured and looked lovely atop skordalia and a herb salad.
Whilst the saganaki prawns and spanikopita sounded unreal, we were intent on the lamb shoulder for we had heard so many good words. And those words were right. An enormous plate of slow cooked lamb shoulder was served with roasted potatoes. The meat was melt in your mouth and we thoroughly recommend this as the one to order.
We were too full for dessert, but they have your Greek favourites; from Loukamades to Baklava and more. So if you’re into your sweets, make room for it!
We enjoyed our visit for the lovely food, location and great service.
