We’ve been to Meet Gerard before, a few years back but it had sadly fallen off our radar with all the busy blogging weekends. Passing by recently, I decided to revisit and so glad I did, for it was just as good as I remembered. I then returned the following week.
The cafe, located on Henderson Road in Alexandria is a quaint little spot. It’s casual, perhaps a little rustic and could probably do with some updated menus. Indoor and outdoor seating and you could sit outside with your puppy if you so pleased.
The coffee there is certainly a selling point, for they make their coffee with beans by specialty roasters Coffee Alchemy.
Food wise, they appear to be about sourcing fresh local produce, serving up clean, healthy and delicious meals.
We enjoyed a variety of dishes including the Creamy Chili scrambled eggs, with a touch of spice (not too hot at all), served with grilled broccolini, goats curd and flavoured with sumac. Served on a slice of sourdough. We’d recommend two pieces of toast.
Their sandwiches are such a good lunch choice; at $10, they’re super good value. They list their chicken sandwich as the ‘Best Roast Chicken Sandwich Ever’ and we can see why. Sonoma rustic miche, filled with roast chicken, picnic stuffing, herbed aioli and rocket.
My favourite is their ‘ultimate Salad Sandwich’, again on the softest bread ever, filled with heaps of crunchy vegetables, tomato, alfalfa, beetroot hummus, pickled cucumber, cheddar and aioli. If you’re after a vegan dish, you can simply opt for no aioli or cheese. I enjoyed this so much that I ordered it two weeks in a row.
Our dining party also enjoyed the “Milk & Honey” yoghurt pannacotta, served like a work of art with fresh fruits, honeyed puffed rice and house granola.
On the menu, they also have Cilbir eggs with sujuk, yoghurt, dill, parsley, brussels, fefferoni and toast or a beef burgers, brekkie bowls and smashed avo to name a few.
