Last week we dined at Kazan dining, a new Japanese restaurant in the CBD inside 25 Martin Place, only recently opening in June.
Design of the space is semi-circular, looking out to the forum area of Martin place dining. Minimalist with the tables and seating but a beautiful Japanese patterned roof reminds us of our travels.
The restaurant offers dinner tasting menus at $95, as well as ala carte. We opted for ala carte as we were worried about the tasting menu having too much food for us to finish, but we also wanted to try a few things that were only on the ala carte menu. Once we saw other people with the tasting menu, we do think it’s a fabulous option next time.
The menu boasts entrees, sushi and sashimi, mains and dishes cooked over the robata grill. Delicately prepared food, presented beautifully.
We loved their slow-cooked Angus tenderloin finished on the robata grill with a slice of foie gras, the creamy miso Nasu Dengaku which was lightly crisped, as well as their Wagyu Nigiri.
49’ ocean trout probably wasn’t as good as hoped (a but more flavour to the sauce would have been nice). As a side, we loved the mushroom and spinach truffle salad, as well as robata cauliflower and mushrooms.
Overall the food was great and we found the portions to be generous.
We were so full which meant we didn’t get dessert, but we would love to return for the Yamazaki whisky fondant!!
Drinks wise, the cocktail and wine list is extensive and we enjoyed the plum flavoured margarita!
A lovely place for a work lunch, date or sophisticated dining experience.
