The photos here aren’t as good as I hoped because I was out too busy enjoying myself with friends to take too much photographing time and also too keen to devour the food. But a review is not just about pictures, these words are important too!

I loved my visit to the new Spanish Tapas joint, Bar Louise in Enmore. Enter through the pink and purple facade into a dark and intimate feel with mustard and red walls, with wines lining the shelves as the decor.

Brought to us by the Porteno group and located at the old Stanbuli site, the establishment is a two storey location with seating on both levels, and small bar downstairs. We booked well in advance, and lucky to do so, for the restaurant was booked out on our night of visiting. The ambience was bustling with chatter of clientele having a great time over a few drinks and great food.

They do small Spanish food on share plates with the likes kingfish crudo with a jamon viniagrette, and pulplpo a la Gallega’ Octopus – nicely cooked on a smear of aioli and seasoned with paprika.

One of the standouts for us was the crispy fried pork belly, beautifully cooked and served on a Mojo Verde.

There is also plenty of deli meats from Jamon to Serrano and quite a number of vegetarian dishes too. We also enjoyed the Escalivada, or plate grilled eggplant and peppers as well as the garlic mushrooms with egg (another personal favourite). We recommend some of their thickly sliced bread too.

For dessert, it’s the torrijas, a thick slice of pan-fried French toast crusted with sugar and cinnamon. Like a fancy donut!

For drinks, you’ll find some cocktails and an extensive wine list, as well as some non-alcoholic options. Wines are well matched to the Spanish menu.

It’s a great place to visit with a group of friends for a fun night out over great food and drinks.
