Kurtosh is a European bakery that makes all their pastry instore. Known especially for their Kurtosh/Kürtőskalács or “Chimney Cake”, the traditional Hungarian pastry is made with tightly wrapped pastry coils that are doused in sugar, caramelised by baking to produce a crispy flaky exterior and soft interior. You can then have them topped with your choice of topping; cinnamon, chopped nuts like pistachios, chocolate or spices for added texture & flavour. The cinnamon one was my choice and it’s a like a donut in taste and I absolutely loved it. A decent size too, so you grab it to share.

We also had a chocolate fudge cookie and mixed berry tart along with some of their popular slab cakes. These, you can order per 100g slices. There’s so many varieties and I opted for my long time favourite, the cinnamon and walnut cake, as well as a tiramisu and their lemon meringue pie. It’s a great way to sample many flavours by purchasing by the slice.

Whilst you’re there, grab a coffee or chai, an iced tea or cold drink and relax in the comfortable and welcoming environment. Staff were friendly and eager to help.

I’d been a regular at Randwick when I lived there but it’s great to see they’ve grown with more stores, such as Surry Hills, Wollongong, Darling Square, Crows Nest and more.
