MLK Deli

Mlk Deli (Myra’s Little Kitchen) popped up on my instagram feed and the sandwiches looked incredible. We’d also noticed this in readiness for opening is up and running in Surry Hills, just off Crown Street not long ago and we’re always keen to try new places.

The owner Myra Karakelle, has a range of international influences in her family (Uzbekistan, Afghan and) Turkish so she can draw influence from a range of cuisines. They’ve spent hours perfecting the 6 hour slow cooked brisket and you’ll see a cabinet filled with pastrami, mortadella, salami and turkey to name a few. There’s also Afghan lamb meatballs and Uzbek style chicken. Meat is also all halal.

What you’re here for is the huge sandwiches, some on focaccia, others on ciabatta with a range of sandwich options featuring the meats and cheeses, and a vegetarian option. We had the delicious Deli Sando with Turkey, mortadella, wagyu salami, split olives, roasted capsicum, pecorino, provolone and house sauce on a rye ciabatta. They’re certainly generous on size and banging with flavour.

The cafe does great coffee using the Supreme brand, cookies, halva brownies and other pastries.

The cafe has a great vibe and ambience to it, it feels cosy and you can sit inside in comfort or in the fresh air outside. I popped up a stool at the front window and felt welcome by staff. Myra herself was working the till and honestly one of the most friendly and hospitable person ever!
