The most stunning accomodation I ever did see! This was a suitable compromise for Kurt going to whisky distilleries and playing golf during our time in Scotland.

You can find this luxury accomodation and championship golf course in Scotland on the island of Islay, close to the dunes of the ocean shores. It’s close enough, you can even swim in the beach.

This hotel is incredible and has been acknowledged as Scotland’s Golf Hotel of the Year 2023/24 and listed in the UK’s Top 30 Hotels.

There’s a range of rooms available such as the Comfy and Cosy rooms, a two-bed family Lodge, with us choosing a cosy one. Our room was large, with a King size bed, very comfortable, and a small fold out for our son. The room had a fridge, coffee and tea making facilities, a safe, hairdryer and the bathroom was stocked with products to use. Rooms have stunning views of the surrounding countryside or ocean. Some rooms are even dog friendly too.

The property had beautiful furnishings, really nice styling and artworks and just oozes modern sophistication, eclectic charm and style. There Stag Lounge where you could read, have a drink or play games such as chess.

The hotel has a great bar and restaurant, and our package included a delicious breakfast of fruit, juice, cereal and yoghurt, and you can also order a warm meal.

Sport wise, there’s an 18 hole golf course, which is a challenging links course, plenty of blind tee shots, the 4 iron got plenty of use off the tee. Lucky there wasn’t much wind and good to get a few birdies. Tight fairways, greens are undulating and a little but slow but all in all they are in great condition, a lovely scenic walk that isn’t too long. I didn’t get a cart, but you can if you so please. There’s also a driving range, chipping and putting green and a well stocked pro shop where you can hire a decent set of clubs if needed.

There’s a small gym with a treadmill, bikes and a rower and some hand weights. But enough to get a bit of other exercise in. There’s also a sauna which is great. Only thing they need is a pool and spa and it would be perfect. We understand a pool is on the way!

The Machrie really is the perfect course and a must stay location on Islay. We loved our stay and would have stayed had it not been so expensive.
