A striking cafè @Anvil Cafè and Grocer

Anvil Café and Grocer has moved to a central location in Crows Nest and is a great place to enjoy breakfast, lunch or food on the go and a good coffee. You can also purchase packaged goods like nuts and spices.

The space has a  minimalist style to it, with white chairs and tables, combined with greenery and feels somewhat Scandinavian. Entering into this café, it has a cool vibe, friendly staff and a wealth of products to buy and take home.

We began with tea and coffee and went for something sweet too – a vegan, gluten free donut made by We R Nutie. I wouldn’t normally go for these kind of treats, but it looked outstanding with a caramel topping and popcorn. This was soft and incredibly tasty inside and we devoured it in an instant, not before grabbing a quick pic.

The café sells both all day breakfast and lunch options. The breakfast menu has granola or chia seed pudding, Arabian eggs, Avocado goats cheese and breakfast plates. We chose the chard corn fritters which are really fluffy fritters that are almost the consistency of a pancake topped with greens, yoghurt, lemon vinaigrette and fresh herbs. We really liked these, though think the dish would be even better with some sort of chutney or similar for flavoured sauce.

We decided to also sample their lunch menu and it was a tough choice between the chicken curry or slow cooked beef. We went for the Moroccan beef which was a beautifully cooked slow cooked with a rich sauce, and this casserole type dish included pearl barley, pumpkin, currants, perppercorn and yoghurt.

A lovely café now conveniently located. Anvil has a good range of delicious brunch options and is worth a visit. Thanks to the staff at Anvil for their hospitality and to CPM for arranging our return visit.
