In the back streets of Banksmeadow you’ll find Filante Woodfired Pizzeria. Located beside Deni International Foods who supply restaurants with goods such as olive and truffle oil, pasta, sauces, pickled vegetables, meats and cheeses. Since Deni International Foods is not operating due to restaurant closures due to COVID19, Filante commenced selling to the public through Denigrocer which they are working to expand as well as making Pizzas using products.
Since Covid19, their usual customers aren’t all in operation so they have taken this opportunity to adapt their business model to selling Roman style woodfired pizzas.
They have a large woodfired pizza oven visible from front of shop and are selling calzones, entrees, pastas, sides and dolce. The pizza dough and cheese is all made in house. It is fitting that Filante is known as ‘stringy cheese’, since the pizza is covered with this beautiful stuff!
The pizza has a nice soft dough, cooked perfectly in the woodfired oven, topped with fresh ingredients. We ordered the Diavola, which has a tomato sauce base, topped with mozzarella cheese, hot salami.
If you’re there for lunch, the deals are incredibly good, at only $10 a pizza, parmigiana or polpette (meatballs). They also have foccacias. If you’re sharing, it’s only $24.50 for 2 pizzas, arancini and 2 drinks.
For dinner, traditional pizzas range from $14–$20, and their signature options are $22-24 (using some fancy ingredients like stracciatella, truffle or even a calzone).
They also have vegan and vegetarian pizza options.
On the entree and sides menu, there’s antipasto, arancini, croquettes, and a few salads.
If you’re keen on dessert, there’s pizza with Nutella, Nutella calzone, mini dough pizza balls, tiramisu and pannacotta.
