Substation Cafe – now also in Rosebery

The first cafe opened inside an old electrical substation in Alexandria and had a lovely little indoor courtyard area to sit and enjoy your meal. They’ve since opened a second store in Rosebery which is opposite Turruwul Park.

They’re is some indoor seating, but quite a lot of space outside. This is great, for it is dog friendly and we took our little puppy to the cafe and then across to the park for a walk.

The cafe has a wide menu with everyone’s favourites. The food is wholesome, fresh, generously portioned and reasonably priced. There’s Great coffee by Single Origin, as well as tea, smoothies, juice and kombucha.

We went with some friends and tried a few different vibrant dishes.

The ‘Morning Dream Roll’ is a freshly baked Station fresh roll presented beautifully with 1 free-range egg, Crispy Bacon, slice of Tomato, Spinach and Station made aioli.

We also ordered the Poached Free range eggs, with Oregano marinated field mushroom, wilted Spinach, Meredith goat cheeses served on Soy and Linseed Sourdough toast. A lovely healthy dish with a good dose of daily greens.

We had one of their weekend specials; the potato latkes; 3 Free range scrambled eggs, grilled Haloumi and tomato and apple salsa. It was nice, but did need some more of a flavour kick. We asked for sauce and they brought us some relish and chilli sauce, which we recommend should be served with the dish as it provided another good element to raise its flavour profile.

In addition they’ve got eggs your way, açai, granola, vegetarian breakfasts, baked eggs, power salads, French toast and more. They also make a range of Fresh pastries from cake and danishes to croissants.

The weekend menu has a few extra options on the weekend for an indulgent weekend.

A great addition to the Rosebery area
