The artisan bakery can be found in Redfern/Alexandria and you may not spot it unless specifically looking for it, with an unassuming shop frontage on Botany Road. The shop is super small, allowing one guest inside at a time. We love the antique cockatoo ceramics and arts in the store.
Wild Cockatoo sells a wide range of artisan specialty breads, croissants, tarts, pastries, pies and sausage rolls.
On a few occasions before when we’ve been, a lot of their products were sold out, so this time we got in early to get our pick of the delicious baked goods.
The counter showcases all the breads on offer in baskets on the counter and the pastries in a display cabinet. Bread wise, we opt for the rye and malted barley bread in addition to the most amazing sourdough with saltbush. The flavours do change and they also sell fruit bread and baguettes. The bread is crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside, and even better, it was still warm when we bought it.
We also purchased a berry tart and a rhubarb tart. These were also warm and so tasty, like an almond tart in the consistency, a crusty casing, crumb on top and sugary fruity filling.
A great bakery! Be sure to check it out.
