Surry Hills is the home of plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars, but also some great shops and food stores. One of these is Formaggi Occello, a store selling a huge range of cheeses from Italy, France, Switzerland, England, Ireland, Holland, Spain, America and around Australia.
The store is super cute and has a homely rustic feel to it. A long deli counter stocking their meat and cheeses, and the other side of the store showcasing their packaged pastas, oils and other goods. If you check out their website, you can see all the things you can purchase such as wine, meats, cheeses, snacks, nuts crackers, condiments, grazing boxes and more. They even do wedding cheese cakes and hampers.
I happened to be in the area when the store was holding a free cheese tasting and I had the opportunity to sample some of their cheeses. This was great as it introduced me to some new flavours, and I bought some of these to take home, in addition to some bresola which I made into the tastiest sandwich.
I look forward to returning and sampling and purchasing some other flavours. I also found the staff to be super helpful in recommending the best meats to pair with the cheese I selected.
This place is any cheese lovers’ dream.
