XS Espresso – UNSW

XS Espresso is a chain of cafes that can be found all around Sydney, in locations such as Wetherill Park, North Parramatta, Prestons, Gregory Hills and at UNSW Kensington.

We’ve visited a few of the venues now and find the cafes to have a good vibe. Order at the counter and food is brought to you very efficiently. It’s a good space to hangout with a group of friends and even your kids for the menu is pretty approachable. They have brekkie and lunch options like muesli, burgers, salads and plenty of desserts to pick from, you’ll certainly find something tasty. Their desserts are pretty decadent; waffles, pancakes, crepes and filled donuts.

Serving campos coffee, juices and tea, XS Espresso are also notorious for their loaded shakes.

We went to the store on the UNSW campus and although it’s in a University, it’s even open on the weekend. It’s a large space and room to dine in and out. Visiting previously, we’ve tried an bacon and egg roll as well as their omelette, where you can select your toppings.

We’ve tried a lot of their salads; and loved the Happy Bowl – served with chicken and quinoa, a pumpkin wedge, kale, grilled halloumi, cucumber and topped with a poached egg. The plate is dressed with beetroot hummus and the salad is flavoured with lemon and chilli. It’s a generous serve and super flavoursome.

Their halloumi and pumpkin salad is quite similar to the happy bowl, but with rocket snd pomegranate. You can add chicken or prawns to it.

This time we enjoyed the super bowl, which is a vegan / gluten free bowl at its base (but added prawns) cabbage, carrot, avocado, kale, beetroot hummus, quinoa, chickpea, sweet potato crisps, cherry tomato, cucumber and lemon vinaigrette. We find this is super generous on size and a good healthy lunch!

At lunches you can also get quite big meals like sirloin, barramundi, pita bowls, salad, chicken and waffles, chicken and chips and burgers. There’s even pasta, including a vegan one! Kurt loved their “So cheeky burger”, a soft milk bun with crispy fried buttermilk chicken, creamy slaw, tomato, cheese, onion relish & XS secret spicy, served with a side of chips.

Don’t forget to finish off with a desert! Fondue, waffles, cookie dough, pancakes, shakes! Here’s the Nutella filled donut bomb.

There’s currently a lotus Biscoff range and I loved the Biscoff latte!

We love XS and look forward to a return visit.
