AP house @ Surry Hills

All Purpose Bakery has been doing pastry drops for a while now at Paramount coffee project and Reuben Hills and I’ve certainly done my share of driving to both for bread and pastries there. They’ve now opened up a cafe and bakery called AP House on the rooftop of Paramount House in Surry Hills next to the Paramount recreation centre. Head into the building, catch the lift to the top and you’ll find an open air urban space with white tables and chairs and greenery surrounds. We were there on a rainy day and the umbrellas protected us.

The bakery sells loaves of bread and pastries as well as dine in meals. The bread varietals include baguettes, country loaf, rye, spelt, barley and the one we purchased, a toasted sesame and burnt fenugreek loaf is amazing!! There’s also savoury pastries like ham and Gruyère croissants. Sweet wise, think canele and bombolini, buttermilk croissants and pain au chocolat. We try an incredible coconut and mango Danish with layers of crisp pastry. We recommend getting there early before they sell out.

You can also dine on their all day menu, whether it be their “lazy omelette” with potato and fried curry leaves. We order the “build your own breakfast” with eggs, pickles, toast and cured ham, as well as the “bakers breakfast”.

This is complete with 2 boiled eggs, a hash brown, whipped cods roe, herb salad, pickle and baguette. The food here is fabulous and we love that you can build your own.

Drink wise, given AP House is owned by some big namers in the coffee industry, it’s hardly surprising that they’re using roasts from Reuben Hills. They’ve also got smoothies, juices, beer and wines.

AP addition is a great addition to the area and we look forward to returning.
