There is plenty going on in Redfern, particularly when it comes to bars and restaurants. For us, Bart Jr really should be at the top of the list. This local restaurant/ bistro is a great place to enjoy a meal, we love the alfresco dining experience and that the staff had character, whilst providing very good service at the same time. However, it doesn’t stop there. The food is excellent and even served one of the best dishes we have had the pleasure of eating, period.
Bart Jr is also great for a drink, with a good cocktail list and they even accommodated with refreshing mocktails such as the rosemary, peach and soda mix and it was particularly good. The restaurant also have craft beer on tap and a good range of wine.
The food at Bart Jr was phenomenal, with a bunch of tasty menu items made for sharing. The hasselback potatoes are always a must on any menu, the Bart Jr version served with butter milk and garlic cream and Aleppo pepper, these baked crispy were very morish, the crisp texture of the combining nicely with the delicious creamy sauce.
Another tasty morsel being the prawn roll, with horseradish mayo, tarragon, chive, as well as fresh shiso. Served on a soft milk bun, it was enjoyable, however the shiso is very powerful ingredient so consider that if it’s a new flavour for you.
We thoroughly enjoyed the pappardelle pasta with Southern Calamari, nduja, white wine, summer squash, lemon basil and garlic bread crumb. All flavours of this dish worked in harmony.
All very nice dishes here but the standout for us was the charred ocean trout skewers. These mouth watering skewers were spectacular, a good portion of trout, cooked over charcoal on 2 large metal skewers. The combination of flavours including charred fennel, harissa, yoghurt and mint made for one of our favourite fish dishes of all time.
Overall, Bart Jr is a great restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere, we highly recommend a visit and the charred Ocean trout skewers are a must order.
