Panama house for Sunday roasts

Panama house is a Central American restaurant located on the second level of Campbell Parade’s The Pacific Building, above the esplanade. The restaurant has a great view overlooking Bondi beach. Panama house is famous for its Latin American fare at any time of the day, be it brunch, lunch or dinner. Whilst it’s winter, drop in and let them warm you up with Sunday Roast.

The good old Sunday roast. Something we’re sure you’ve probably enjoyed a few times with the family. Whilst historically, the Sunday roast stems from British tradition, at Panama house they’ve kept the same concept but incorporated different flavours.

The Sunday roast usually has a roasted meat, roast potatoes and a number of accompaniments like Yorkshire puddings or veggies such as cauliflower, carrots, broccoli or whatever suits the chefs fancy. There also must be the gravy component to douse the plate with.

So popular is the concept of a roast in Britain, that we hear it’s the second most favoured meal after Christmas lunch. No wonder that it’s popular, given its a great winter warmer. It’s since been a regular part of Australian heritage too. Whatever the culture, food is a way to bring friends and family together. It’s all about the cultural connection, which was at the core of adding this to the Panama house food menu.

Why not pop on in to Panama House on Sunday’s for your Sunday roast and a glass of wine. Here you can find everything you love about that Sunday roast, without working laboriously in the kitchen.

Whether it be the Argentinian chicken with herbs including oregano, dried thyme, smoked paprika, cumin, fennel seed, chilli powder or the moist pork belly with Star anise pears, the protein focus of the roast always changes. This means you can come every Sunday and taste something different.

On our visit this week, our roasted pork came served with garlic seasoned greens, roasted pumpkin and duck fat potatoes. On other weeks you might find corn, cabbage, broccoli or another veggie side. The hearty meal will provide comfort through this winter.

The venue is schmick, with an industrial style loft vibe, fitted out with hardwood tables and leather couch seating reflecting a New York style brunch scene. The outdoor area is perfectly comfortable for an extended weekend catch up.

The Sunday roast is $30 per person and you’ll get a share-style menu of the meat and vegetable offerings, served 4-8pm each Sunday.

Panama House offers only South American or Australia wines, which is great to see it matching the food on offer. We had a glass of the Blanc Pinot Gris, Riesling, gewurtz from Gilbert (orange), as well as the Shiraz Primitivo, Inkwell (McLaren vale SA).

They also have a great cocktail list and a quality spirit list with a spectacular ledger of Tequila, Mezcal and Rum

When the days are shorter and the nights are colder, we need to warm the insides. Be sure to check out the Sunday roast offerings, and take a bunch of friends and family and enjoy the view whilst you’re at it.
