Totti’s @ Bondi

We had been wanting to go to Totti’s since it’s opening, but it’s so popular and always booked out. We got around to booking a long while ago and excited for our visit.

Totti’s is part of the Merivale group and is a casual Italian eatery with a menu made for sharing. They are serving up high quality food, that is light, refreshing and super delicious developed by chefs Mike Eggert and Khan Danis.

The restaurant is at the exterior of The Royal Pub on Bondi Road. Make your way in from street entrance to the restaurant, which has a light filled indoor space. The fit out is cool, a large pizza oven dominating the eastern corner, visible deli meats in the charcuterie section, and basketry adoring the walls as art. Otherwise you can sit out in the courtyard amongst the olive trees, which would be perfect on a cool summers day. Unfortunately our day of visit was the hottest November day in history so we made a request to sit inside and thankfully the staff were accomodating.

We had the wood-fired bread (which it seems to be something everyone orders) which is made to order straight out of the oven. As it comes out, it is puffed up like a pillow and then dashed with olive oil and salt. Although we didn’t order charcuterie or cheese on this visit, there’s plenty of meats, cheeses and other antipasto that would be great to start with over a glass or two of wine.

For the mains, we enjoy the saucy and flavourful Prawn casarecce and they thankful made the linguine vegan, for our friend. We then shared the lovely wood roasted fish fillets (albeit very small), with sides of butter lettuce, nectarines, eschallot as well as the incredibly tasty Baked eggplant with chilli & pangrattato crumb. Another delicious side was the creamy toasted kale & sunflower seeds fregola. The food here is incredibly tasty, perhaps a little small for the price, especially if sharing.

Hence we follows up with dessert which struck a sense of nostalgia with their take on Neapolitan Ice cream. It had a all the taste of the much loved Neopolitan ice cream, with a gelato texture, compacted and served as a sandwich with wafers as the exterior. For those that prefer fruit flavours or have a vegan diet, the Blood orange sorbet sandwich is the perfect choice. Other desserts on the menu include a Mille-Feuille, Tiramisu, pavlova and a tart of the day.

It’s also the kind of place to have a wine or cocktail with your meal and the list is extensive. We have a Margarita – Chilli Olmeca Altos Plata, lime, watermerlon, basil as well as a non-alcoholic option; the watermelon highball with Seedlip Garden, lime, watermelon, basil, soda. They have freshly squeezed juices and coffee too.

During the whole experience the staff were extremely friendly, attentive and professional. They should be credited with this on such a day, they were dealing well!
